This is Bailey and he is an exceptionally handsome, flat nosed, typey Boston boy.  When you
look this good, it's easy to develop a little attitude.  After this handsome boy was abandoned at
an Animal Shelter in Slidell, LA by the only family he'd ever known since he was a tiny pup, he
was understandably confused, frightened, and sad when he saw his family so easily cast him aside
as a result of a domestic squabble.  Owner moved out and into an apartment that didn't allow pets
and the other family members took him to the shelter to spite the one who had left.  Poor Bailey
was caught in the middle.  Then shelter workers started sticking him with needles drawing blood
and giving vaccinations.  Strange people came in and gawked at him in his crate.  Strangers took
him in and out and then a mentally handicapped person who didn't mean Bailey any harm tried to
pick him up.  He acted a little different than what Bailey was accustomed to and on top of all the
other stressors this little tossed out dog was experiencing, this was a little too scary and he bit
the client.  The skin was not broken and the client, with the help of his family member, didn't hold
this against Bailey and stayed and did adopt another pet that day.  But unfortunately for Bailey,
an overworked, understaffed, crowed shelter is not the place to make those kinds of mistakes.
So to add to all his problems, Bailey now had landed himself on "death row"....destined to be
euthanized because of a mistake.  Luckily, the kind shelter workers realized what a good dog
Bailey really was, and although they had rules to follow, called Rescue to see if we would give
him a second chance.  We were all too happy to do so!

Bailey was adopted to a home in Louisiana about a month ago but bit the lady and was returned.
He has also on one occasion bitten his foster dad but has never offered to bite his foster mom.
Since that one incident, Bailey and his foster dad have gained an understanding and Bailey
understands that he isn't the man of the house and they get along wondrfully.  Bailey is really a
good dog but someone in his past has allowed him to think that he was lord and master of all he
surveyed....i.e. he's been spoiled and he will bully anyone who is afraid to be a strong pack
leader.  Once he sees you are not intimidated by him, Bailey is not a bad dog.  He now even
sleeps with his foster parents in their bed at night.  He certainly wouldn't do that if he was a
really bad dog!  Bailey is a wonderful pet and his foster parents love him.  It seems that he can
be a bit quirky sometimes and doesn't always want to be told what to do.  This will elicit a little
grumbling growl which is immediately checked by his foster parents and then he is just fine.  It
appears that Bailey has been spoiled in his former life and was allowed to believe that he was
king of the household.  Although he's been behaving in the last months, only showing the
occasional bluffing incidents in his foster home, he needs someone who is in charge so that he
knows it is not his job to be the decision maker or pack leader of the home.  Once he understands
this, he settles right in and his sole desire is to be petted and babied.  We will be more than happy
to explain any quirks to anyone interested in Bailey.  We tell the good, the bad, and the ugly
because we want to make the best possible match for both adopter and adoptee.  However, do
rest assured that this dog is much more good than bad.  You can take him anywhere, love him,
and he'll love you back.  Once in a blue moon, we all have bad days.  How terrible it would be if
minor improprieties were forever held against us.  The only thing Bailey needs is a strong pack
leader and his success in his foster home is proof of that.

Now that the unpleasantries are out of the way, let's focus on Bailey's good points, and they are
many!  He is actually a fun-loving, affectionate little guy who dearly loves to jump up on the
couch and lay beside you.  He'll roll over on his back and that's your cue to give him his belly
rubs.  He'll follow you around the house like your little shadow.  He minds very well and always
comes when called, goes in his crate on command, and is reliably house trained.  He walks well
on a leash, adores car rides, and joyfully greets new people as long as they don't try to pick him
up.  He spent Thanksgiving Day at the home of his foster mom's mother and was not at all
bothered by new people in the house or their own pets.  He gets along quite well with other dogs
and enjoys their company as long as they aren't dominant bullies.  He also sleeps in the bed with
his foster parents at night.....now if he were a "bad dog", they certainly wouldn't allow that!!  His
former owner even reported that he was good with smaller children.  However, due to his bite
history, we will look for a home with experienced dog owners and without young children. Bailey
also loves plush toys and will suck on them as he falls to sleep....some "tough" guy, huh?  This
boy is an awesome companion that can be quite comical and silly.  He just needs a pack leader
willing to show him the way.  He needs to have rules and a structured environment.  This
handsome boy likes to follow his person around everywhere and he sure does enjoy getting loved
up and smooched on.  He's really just a big baby!  He's also a great traveling companion and will
sit quietly in the passenger seat or back seat and sometimes jumps up to look out the window.
Longer trips are the perfect opportunity to catch up on his sleep.

One more note about Bailey.  He has a very flat, beautiful Boston nose.  This means he will fill
his forever home with plenty of loud snorts, snuffles, snarles, and snoring.  If these noises annoy
you or Boston snores keep you awake at night....then look for another companion.  However, to
those of us who are true lovers of the flat-nosed breeds (and we all know who we are!), this is
absolute music to our ears!!

As always, we prefer a home with a fenced yard but will consider applicants who are absolutely
committed to leash walking.   Bostons cannot be turned loose to free range as too much danger
abounds that could cause them harm.

Although you may think Bailey has a lot of "issues", please understand that as long as you are a
confident, knowledgeable pack leader, this is a wonderful, fun, and loving dog to have around.
He's well mannered, house broken and is completely trustworthy to have free run of the home
while you are gone but doesn't mind going in his crate when he needs to.  It's obvious that he was
once a loved, cherished family pet. He functions just fine in his foster home and is very capable
of being a beloved family pet in a dog savvy home.
