At only six months of age, Joey found himself homeless.  He was turned into a shelter when his owner,
after owning him for six months, was "told by her doctor that she was allergic to dogs."  The shelter
called MS Boston Rescue to take Joey in.  When he was checked out by the vet, it was found that Joey
had a very mild case of demodectic mange that had actually went undetected at the shelter.  This is the
non-contagious type and is easily treatable.  He was treated and had received a clean bill of health.  He
was adopted to a home in New Orleans in June 2009.  Then last month, his owner decided she wanted to
adopt a younger dog and when she had the new dog, she placed Joey on Craigslist for sale.  In addition,
when a dog is adopted through any Rescue organization, a contract is signed that person must return
the dog to that rescue organization if they are no longer able or willing to care for the dog.  Her breach
of this contract resulted in us confiscating Joey and the other BT Rescue confiscating their dog as well
as they figured the same would happen to him when he grew out of the puppy stage or if he didn't turn
out to be just what she wanted.  Joey adjusted just fine after leaving and is now looking for a new home
with a loyal owner who will love him for his entire life!

Joey is very active and outgoing.  He gets along well with other dogs and loves people.  His initial owner
had a set of 6 year old twin girls and she said that he loved playing with the children.  Joey is deaf,
however, this doesn't slow him down one bit or inhibit him at all.  Joey doesn't make a big deal out of it
and he doesn't feel sorry for himself and doesn't want anyone else to either.  All Joey wants is a happy
home to call his own where he can play and live a pampered, carefree life.  He's a typical young dog who
loves to romp and have fun.   Joey is crate trained and trained to use the doggie door.  Because Joey
cannot hear you call him if he is running in the direction away from you, he will need a home that has a
fenced yard for him to play or someone who is absolutely committed to leash walk him when he is
outside.  This is absolutely imperative to Joey's safety and well-being.   Joey did have AKC papers
when he initally came to rescue but the owner he was confiscated from did not return them.

Joey is a sweet little boy who loves attention from people. He is happiest when he is with you, doing
whatever you are doing. Want to go for a walk? Great, he loves to walk and get to know folks around
town. Want to play? Joey loves a good time romping in the dog park or outside in his own yard. Want to
take a nap, or read a book, or watch TV? He loves to snuggle up beside you and keep you company
while he snoozes. Want a kiss? He is happy to oblige.  Joey has been around children most of his life
and gets along fine with them and is quite tolerant of them.  We have taken Joey to different places,
he's met different people and we've not encountered anyone Joey didn't like.  He's a real "people
lover"!  He also doesn't have a problem with cats and loves sleeping in the "people bed" with his
owners.

He will make a wonderful addition to some lucky family and after being betrayed by two previous
families, we are more determined than ever to find Joey a LOYAL forever home with owners who value
their pets and know the true meaning of commitment!  Who could resist this handsome young guy with a
pretty blue eye?  If you are interested in giving Joey a permanent, loving home, fill out an
Adoption
Application and designate "Joey" as the dog you are interested in.

Ideal Type of Home: A calm, loving environment with a family who has the time to
provide lots of love and affection as well as plenty of time to teach Duke all a
growing pup needs to know about being a well rounded, loyal companion.
This is Duke!  An adorable little bundle of personality who came to us from
Gulfport Humane Society.  He was surrendered by his owners because they could
no longer care for him.  We were notified by the Humane Society and he came into
foster care with MBTR.  Duke has a history of having some seizures and was on
medication.  However, it didn't seem that Duke particularly acted like a dog with a
seizure disorder so we took him off the medication to see how he'd react.  Approx.
8 weeks later, Duke remains seizure free and has had no trouble whatsoever.  If he
were dependent on medication, we would seen seizure activity within two weeks.
Our vet recommended that Duke not resume the seizure medication as he did not
seem to need it.  Some dogs can have one or two seizures but that's not really cause
to put them on medication.  Some vets will.  Ours does not.  We do not believe in
giving any medications unless they are absolutely necessary.  While Duke has been
just fine, we did want to mention this should Duke ever have any issues later on.
We do not anticipate this and if he did, seizures can be controlled easily with
inexpensive medications.  Please speak to your vet more about this if you have any
detailed questions before adopting.

Duke is an adorable little guy who we think must have been an only child at his
previous home.  Duke likes attention...and lots of it!  He's very affectionate and
playful and would love to have a family that either worked from home or had
someone home most of the time.  Duke's former owner reported that he had never
used a crate and he wasn't exactly thrilled about it when we asked him to use one.
He's getting used to the idea and is beginning to think it's pretty O.K. now.
However, since Duke is house trained, he really doesn't need a crate if you are
willing to do a little puppy proofing....no garbage or food containers left within
reach!  Duke has one ear that stands up and one that turns down.  This only adds
more charm to this adorable little guy!  He's quite easy to get along with and would
make a wonderful companion for almost anyone as long as they had plenty of time
and love to lavish upon this little sweetie.  Here's what Duke's foster mom has to
say about him:

Duke is a small Boston with a lot of personality!  Even though he is a little over 1
year, he still has some puppy energy and puppy playfulness.  He likes to carry his
food bowl around and doesn't mind dropping a hint by bringing his bowl to you
when he wants something put in it.  He is potty trained and plays well with his
foster siblings.  Although every once in awhile he may get into a small squabble
over a toy but nothing serious.  Just normal doggie behavior.  There is a dog savvy
cat in his foster home.  He usually leaves her alone, but when he is feeling playful
he jumps around her until she puts him in his place like cats do.

He loves to run in the yard and chase after tennis balls with his foster sister.  He
loves his people and will follow his foster mom and dad around the house to see
what everyone is up to.  When he is tired, he loves to relax on the couch or chair
and snuggle with his people.  He will let you hold him like a baby and rub his belly.
Since he is well mannered, he gets to sleep in bed with his foster parents.  Duke will
burrow under the covers and is a nice little bed warmer.  He also snores, like most
Bostons do.  In the mornings, he doesn't mind sleeping in, but will get up when
everyone else does.  Duke enjoys being close to his people.  He spends time every
morning sitting on the bath mat next to his foster mom while she puts on her make
up.  He enjoys chew toys and kongs, especially if they are filled with a little treat or
some peanut butter.  Duke goes on daily walks with his foster family and plays
outside (always supervised play though) we don't want him trying to escape out of
the backyard.  While he's not as proficient as some Bostons we've seen, Duke has
learned to climb a chain link fence.  It may take some time and several attempts but
he CAN do it so care should be taken never to leave him unsupervised inside a
cyclone fence as he could scale it!  He would do well with a family that enjoys walks
and playing with him.

Although he is crate trained, the crate is not his favorite place.  His previous owners
did not properly crate train him when he was younger, so when you put him in the
crate he sometimes whines and fusses.  He would do best with a family where he did
not have to be crated although he is learning to behave better in his crate while his
foster mom and dad work.  It's just taking some time for him to get used to this
new idea that he's been introduced to.  He has good house manners, just make sure
there is nothing within reach for him to taste. He pulled some food containers out
of the recycling bin at his foster family's house....but can you blame him, it was
right at his level and it smelled so good.  Be careful not to leave food out within his
reach too.  He has been known to snatch Popeyes chicken left out.  But hey, don't
we all "Love that chicken from Popeyes!!"

Duke is a loving dog who enjoys snuggling, playing, and being with people.  He
plays well with other dogs and gets along with the kitty in his foster home.  We do
not know how he does with children as there are none in his foster home.  We think
he'd probably do just fine with older kids who knew how to properly play and
interact with a dog and didn't try to drag him around.  His foster mom reports that
he has started going to doggie daycare with his foster brother and sister when his
mom and dad are at work.  He does very well with the other dogs but did cry a bit
one day when it was nap time.  The daycare workers crated him with his foster
brother and he was just fine.  He has went to work with his foster dad and did fine.
He also went to a cookout the first night he went to his foster home and we hear
that he charmed the ladies and spent most of his time on one's lap.  So it appears
that Duke is quite the little social butterfly!  If this charming little guy sounds like
he'd be the perfect addition to your home, fill out an adoption application and
mention his name!  A charmer like Duke will surely not be homeless long!
