"Buddy" (Rat Terrier/Boston Terrier mix)
and "Little Mama", (Pitt Bull/Boston Terrier
mix) get a ride from the Okefenokee Animal
Shelter in Georgia to Mississippi Boston
Terrier Rescue. Both dogs were
heartworm positive and needed to go to a
Rescue where they could be treated
before being placed for adoption. A huge
thank-you to pilot Wayne Owens who flew
Buddy and Little Mama to the beginning of
a new life!
Each year, millions of animals are sent to shelters across the U.S. Many are euthanized simply because shelters do not have the room or funds to house them all and they have no way to transport them to Rescue Organizations or Foster Homes far away or even several states away.
Thousands of animals have been flown to new opportunities by private pilots at their expense since Pilots N Paws began their efforts. For more information on this worthy endeavor, please visit their website at www.pilotsnpaws.org or click on their logo below to be taken to their website. We cannot thank this organization enough or the kind pilots who have donated their time, fuel, and airplanes to help save needy pets. Please check out some of the photos of our dogs below that Pilots N Paws have literally airlifted off death row.

Pilot Terry Heath and his wife graciously volunteered to fly Bruno & Lucy from a neglectful situation in Florida to Mobile, AL where they met an MBTR transport.
|
7 y/o Lucy and her 5 y/o blind son,
Bruno, had lived their entire lives in
the backyard of an elderly couple in
Florida who used them for breeding.
When the husband had to go into the
nursing home, the wife decided to
take the dogs to Animal Control. A
neighbor who had been feeding the
dogs knew they were likely to be
euthanized and stepped in and
called Boston Rescue. Kind-hearted
pilot, Terry Heath and his wife,
volunteered to fly the mother/son
duo to Mobile, AL where they met an
MBTR transport. Lucy was very thin
and had been acting as her blind
son's helper and devoted companion
for years. Thanks to Mr. & Mrs.
Heath's kindness, these two sweet
Bostons will no longer be used to
produce pups, will be vetted, and will
be placed in loving homes where
they will be pampered indoor pets.
We want to keep these two bonded
Bostons together. Bruno & Lucy will
forever be grateful to Pilots N Paws
for their new "leash" on life!

Missy flies from Kingsport, TN to Mississippi Boston Terrier Rescue in Bay Springs, MS
|
Missy was adopted from another Boston Rescue group in 2008 by a lady in Kingsport, TN. For two years Missy was a loved and
pampered companion. She was an only "child" and her mom cherished her and took exceptional care of her. She was the
apple of her owner's eye. Missy had found the perfect forever home...and then tragic circumstances disrupted Missy's perfect
life. Her beloved owner was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. Missy remained with her Mom for as long as she could
until her owner finally progressed to the final stages of the disease and had to be placed in hospice care. When Rescues
adopt a dog, we request that the new owners sign a contract stating that the dog will never be sold, 'adopted', or given away
and that it be returned to rescue if the owner or their family is no longer able to care for the animal. Missy's family abided by
this contract and asked to return Missy to rescue. Unfortunately, the original adopting rescue was full at the time and had no
available fosters. They asked if MBTR would take Missy and of course we accepted. Missy had been languishing in a boarding
kennel for two weeks with no place to go after her Mom left for hospice. Rescue workers desperately tried to arrange
transport to MS. Then Missy's hero, Pilots N Paws volunteer Chris Adams, stepped in and offered to fly Missy to her
destination. Bad weather interrupted the transport and Missy spent Easter weekend with a foster in GA. Chris returned the
day after Easter, picked Missy up and flew her the remainder of the journey to MS where she met her new foster mom. She
arrived in good spirits and riding shotgun in the co-pilot's seat...not crate for little Missy!! Missy is safe and will be well
protected and loved until a new home can be located and approved for her. Words cannot express our gratitude to Chris for
his selfless act of kindness towards this one little dog! Chris told us that he could relate to Missy's situation as he had lost
both of his parents to cancer. Thanks go out from the bottom of our hearts to Chris for helping us to help Missy. We are sure
that her owner would be grateful as well knowing that her beloved Missy was safe at last. Kudos to Pilots N Paws!

"Ace" ended up in a shelter in Kingsland, GA. He's cute as a button and sweet as he can be. He even had someone interested in
adopting him.....until he tested heartworm positive. Many people are understandably hesitant to adopt HW postitive dogs. The
treatments are difficult on the dog and they must be closely monitored for several months and the treatments are expensive!
Rescues always run short on funds but so do shelters. Because they take in so many different animals, both dogs and cats,
there's just no way a shelter can afford costly heartworm treatments for the numerous animals they receive who need it. So
where does that leave an otherwise wonderful little dog who only needs treatments and a second chance? Well, that left our boy
"Ace" looking for a Rescue Organization to help him out or either....a much worse fate. A kind shelter director asked Boston
Terrier Rescue for help on Ace's behalf, MBTR gladly agreed to help this handsome little boy. But Ace's problems weren't over.
How was he going to make the 6 + hour ground trip from GA to MS? A request was posted and it didn't take long before the
generous volunteers with Pilots N Paws stepped up to offer their time, planes, and fuel to transport "Ace" to MS. The shelter
director packed Ace a small travel bag and met the pilot at the airport. A few short hours later and Ace was touching down in MS
where he was met by MBTR volunteers. Thanks a million to pilot, Chuck Hinnant, for graciously flying Ace to MS where he will get
the treatments he needs, be neutered, receive a complete health exam and be treated with lots of TLC until he is healthy again,
and then be placed in a carefully screened, loving, forever home. Once again, we are so appreciative to the wonderful Pilots N
Paws volunteers! You truly are live savers!! And just look at that handsome Bostonian smile! Ace obviously enjoyed his trip and
and no doubt knows just what a lucky pup he is to have so many amazing people willing to help him get to Rescue!

Titan & Sadie, a brother and sister duo, were happily living in Oxford, MS with their owner until circumstances beyond her control forced her to make the decision to give up her pets. She didn't want her pets to go to a shelter so she searched for a rescue and found MBTR. We were glad to take in these two beautiful Bostons and help them find a new home. Titan and Sadie's home was over a four hour drive to reach rescue. That's when pilot, Marc Doss, stepped in and kindly volunteered to fly Sadie & Titan to their destination. On the morning of Jan. 21st, the two Bostons met Marc at the Ole Miss Airport and in a fraction of the time it would have taken to drive, these two sweet Bostons were on the ground in Newton, MS. They were happy and frisky and obviously enjoyed their flight. Thanks so much Marc!! We really appreciate you so selflessly volunteering your time and plane to help these two beautiful Bostons as they begin the next chapter in their lives!
