We understand that there are those of you who cannot take a dog into your home or are unable to offer
volunteer services but want to help rescue Bostons.  Perhaps there is a particular Boston listed in the
"Recovery Room" that you would like to Sponsor and specifically designate as the recipient of your
donation to help cover veterinary costs, food, transport expenses, etc.  You can pledge a monthly fee to
help a particular Boston or either to help all the rescue Bostons in general, or alternatively you may want to
offer a one-time donation to sponsor a particular Boston that may have touched your heart.  Veterinary,
food, transport, and spay/neutering costs are high and we do not fully recover expenses at the time of
adoption.  Sponsoring is easy and we desperately need your help to continue our endeavor to save needy
Bostons.
Do you want a GREAT job with no pay but lots of rewarding benefits?  Then become a foster parent to a
rescued Boston Terrier.  In MBTR, foster homes are a critical resource, providing a loving, temporary
shelter for our animals and giving us the opportunity to learn more about the animal in a home
environment and therefore place it in the most appropriate permanent home.  So what drives people to
take an unknown Boston into their home, having to establish a new routine and knowing they're going to
get attached and then have to say goodbye?  The primary reason is of course a deep love of animals,
Bostons in particular, and the knowledge that this is something very tangible you can do to help reduce
the increasing number of pure bred Boston Terriers that are senselessly abused, abandoned, neglected,
and destroyed each year in the state of Mississippi. There is a profound joy in witnessing a transformation
as the animal emerges from the stress of its previous ordeal and its true personality begins to shine
through: a real miracle to see! MBTR pays for the Bostons' medical expenses.  We just ask the foster
parents to provide food, training, and lots of love!  If you are interested in fostering a Boston Terrier,
please go to the
Fostering Information Page to learn more.  You can fill out an online  Application
to Foster, or either contact us via one of the phone numbers or e-mails listed at the bottom of the page.
Some of the Bostons on our website are not ready for adoption because they have health issues that must
first be addressed.  If you have ever owned a Boston, you know how special these precious little dogs are.
Please help us help the less fortunate Bostons who depend on us to save them from any further suffering.
Many Bostons come to us with minor to severe health challenges.  We make every effort to save each
Boston that comes into our care, saving euthanization for only the extreme, and rare case where there is
no other reasonable option.  We have every Boston evaluated by a veterinarian and they are
spayed/neutered, heat worm checked and treated if necessary, brought up to date on all vaccinations, and
micro-chipped.  The standard adoption fee covers only part of medical needs, supplies, food, and
transportation.  Our ability to accept a Boston is limited to space and funding.  MBTR has no paid employees
and is supported through your generous donations and through the wonderful efforts of our family of
volunteers.  Thanks to you,  we are able to save unfortunate Bostons from a life of misery, abandonment,
and from being put down in overcrowded animal shelters.  Meeting the needs of so many homeless,
neglected, and abused dogs is a financial challenge.   But if each person visiting this site donated $20, the
price of dinner in a restaurant, it could sure change the life of a Boston in need.  We are strictly a non-profit
organization and your donations go directly to benefit the Bostons in our care .  You will feel great knowing
that you brought some light into a little dog's life who will then go on to bring happiness into someone's
home.  No amount is too small and
YOU really can make a difference.
We are always in need of people who can spare some time to help needy Bostons.  We often need people
to help us transport Bostons to foster homes or to rescue, help us do vet checks, or do home visits.  All
these things are easy to do and we have forms for you to follow so you know what to ask.  So even if you
don't have the time or room to foster a Boston, you can still provide an invaluable service towards helping
to better their lives and also make the jobs of Rescue workers a little easier by lending a hand and helping
to spread the word about responsible pet ownership and animal protection.  Please contact us at
msbostonrescue@yahoo.com if you would like to volunteer!

Here are just a few good reasons to adopt:

***Buying a pet can easily cost $400 to $1,000 or more.  Adoption costs range around $75 at city shelters to
$200-$300 from pure-breed rescue groups that has spent money on boarding, vets and grooming AND your
pet will already be spayed/neutered and up-to-date on his/her vaccinations.  If you have visited your vet
lately, you will realize this is a pretty good deal compared to buying a pet which will still have to be vetted
and, if you are a responsible pet owner, spayed/neutered as well.

***A pet purchased from a pet store is a complete unknown.  And, once you walk out of the store, you are on
your own – most pet stores or breeders who sell in parking lots out of the back of their cars don’t provide
any support if you have questions or problems with your new pet.  The pup could be prone to serious
illnesses or congenital problems which could result in heartbreak.   When you adopt from a rescue group,
you know what you are getting because the group has a medical, psychological, and emotional history on
the animal. The rescue group will also help you through the familiarization period because they are
invested in providing a good home for that animal.

***If you adopt, you get your choice of any age. Though puppies are cute and cuddly they can also be a
handful and very time consuming. An adult or older pet may be a better “fit” for you and your lifestyle.

***You get just as much love (if not more). An adopted pet is every bit as loving, intelligent and loyal as a
purchased pet, even if you get an adult or older animal.  Most often they are even more loyal and
affectionate because they have come from bad situations and are forever grateful to the person who
"saved" them from a life of doubt and provided a loving, caring home for them.

***When you adopt a pet, you are saving a life. When you buy a pet, you not only deny a homeless pet a
home, you are supporting an industry that thrives on shortchanging the welfare of animals. Puppy and
kitten mills (which sell to pet stores) are in business to make a profit, so they churn out puppies and kittens
as fast as they can. These animals are often in ill health and have problems like poor socialization skills due
to lack of human companionship and genetic defects due to inbreeding.  Every time you buy from a
breeder, flea market, or pet store, somewhere an older dog or litter of pups gets the death sentence.

For all of these reasons, adopting rather than buying is pretty much a no-brainer!

***Note to Potential Fosters and Adopters: Lassie, Benji, Rin Tin Tin and Toto don't show up in
rescue. We don't get the elegantly coiffed, classically beautiful, completely trained, perfectly behaved
dog. We get the leftovers; dogs that other people have incompetently bred, inadequately socialized,
ineffectively "trained," and badly treated. Most Rescue dogs have had it. They've been pushed from one
lousy situation to another. They've never had proper veterinary care, kind and consistent training, or
sufficient company. They've lived outside, in a crate, or in the basement. They're scared, depressed and
anxious. Some are angry. Some are sick or injured. Some have given up.

But we are Rescue and we don't give up. We know that a dog is a living being, with a spirit and a heart
and feelings. Our dogs are not commodities, things, or disposable garbage.  They are part of sacred
creation and they deserve as much love and care and respect as the next Westminster champion. There's
always more dogs than rescuers but we make every effort to correct any problems we can.  However, we
can't always offer you a "flawless" dog.  We invest all the blood, sweat, tears, and money, often from our
OWN pockets and never enough to cover all the bills, that we can into these dogs.  So don't come to
rescue in the hopes of getting a "bargain" or getting a dog that is already completely house broken and
obedience trained.  Indeed, you shouldn't come to rescue in the hopes of "getting" anything. We will only
adopt to compassionate people who we feel  are as committed to these dogs as we are, even if there are
some "flaws" that may come with them.  When you come to Rescue to adopt a needy Boston, come to
give, to love, and to save a life....not to get a "bargain" dog that someone else has already house trained.
We are here to find people for our dogs, not to find dogs for people! Rescue will reward you in ways you
never thought possible. I can promise you this -- a rescue dog will make you a better person.
Let us not  love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth.
I John 3:18
Weekly we get e-mails from people thanking us for taking care of homeless Bostons and that
"one day" they are going to get involved in Rescue.  We sincerely appreciate the kind words
but for those thinking about getting involved "one day", why not make this THE day?
Because of a floundering economy and an increase in hobby and backyard breeders, we are
seeing more and more Bostons surrendered.  There are more Bostons coming in than we
have foster homes for.  The increased number of Bostons need more vetting than we have
the funds for. Rescues every where are struggling and it's the innocent Bostons, who are
already tired, cold, hungry, and homeless who are suffering.  If you don't really believe "that
many pure bred dogs come to rescue" or if you're a breeder and think "your dogs never are
surrendered by their owners", then you are gravely mistaken.  So please, if you have EVER
considered donating funds or fostering a needy Boston, the time is
NOW!  We desperately
need committed volunteers.  The timing has never been more critical and the need as never
been greater.
